2021 SUPER Sweeper

Please note - The information below is based on our most ideal scenario.  As our global response to COVID-19 is fluid at this time, changes may be needed for our event to ensure the safety of our competitors, spectators, tournament committee

The Howie Kolhoff SUPER Sweeper will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Eastway Bowl in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Over 150 bowler entries accepted for the 2021 event.  A wait list will be created for entries over the maximum allowed.

ONLINE Registrations will be accepted until maximum number of paid entries are received or until 12:00pm Friday, February 26. 


Walk in's are welcome as long as space allows.

All entries must be submitted and paid via online methods.  Please see SINGLES ENTRY tab under the SUPER SWEEPER menu for online entry form.  

Registration - 

  • The SUPER Sweeper is open to all USBC Sanctioned Middle School and High School bowlers.  

  • Two divisions are offered - 

    • Scratch - 185 average and above

    • Handicap - 184 average and below

    • Bowlers with averages below 185 may select to bowl scratch.

  • Two shifts available - 

    • 9:00am - check in starts at 8:15am  (limited to 96 bowlers)

    • 1:00pm - check in starts at 12:15pm (limited to 60 bowlers) (1PM shift if FULL)

  • Entry Fee $50.00 due at time of registration.​  A $2.00 processing fee will be included in payment amount.

  • Please contact the tournament director at bowlhowie@yahoo.com regarding refund process if for any reason you need to withdraw from the event after registering.

  • Bowlers are encouraged to wear bowling jersey like shirt and dress pants and/or skirts.  Denim, leggings, sweatpants, hats and attire with offensive language/images are not allowed.  

  • All bowlers must be able to show proof of school attendance (ie, school id, report card) if requested from Tournament Staff.

  • Use average from 2019-2020 season unless current season average is 10 pins higher (as of February 15).  If no average from 2019-2020 season, use current average based on 9 or more games bowled.

  • All bowler averages must be confirmed.  Bowlers without confirmed averages will bowl in scratch division.

  • Bowlers may be re-rated at the Tournament Directors discretion.  Any such adjustment must take place prior to qualifying.  Bowlers that do not agree with adjusted average may request a refund.

  • Handicap bowlers will be awarded handicap based on confirmed average at 90% of 210.  Maximum handicap allowed - 72 pins.

Tournament Play - 


Due to the current status of COVID-19 in our region, the following rules will be applicable to this event weekend –

  • All bowlers are required to wear masks.  Bowlers may remove their mask when it’s their turn to bowl.

  • All spectators are required to wear masks and should be limited to bowler’s immediate family.

  • Restrictions may change based on current COVID-19 status during event.

  • Doors open at 8:00am.  Please do not enter building prior to 8:00am.

  • Check in will start 45 minutes prior to shift start time.  

  • No outside food or beverage will be allowed.  Food specials will be available through the Eastway Lounge.  Refillable water bottles with lids allowed. 

  • Lunch/dinner special will be available from 11am - 5pm (Hamburger, chips, cookie - $5).  Meal tickets can be purchased at the Tournament desk during check in or at the Front Desk during each qualifying shift.

  • Modified challenge pattern will be released 1 week prior to event.  Fresh oil will be applied prior to each qualifying shift.

  • Spectators and bowlers not actively bowling in current shift may not enter the bowling area.

  • Bowlers paddock area – An area will be marked out in the game room for bowling bags/equipment.  All bowlers should store their equipment in this area while they are bowling and vacate once finished making room for the bowlers in the next shift.

  • All equipment must be taken home after each completed shift.

  • No more than 2 balls per bowler in the bowling area.

  • No cell phones in bowling area during qualifying or match play. 

  • Additional details pertaining to the event activities will be communicated via Facebook/Howie Kolhoff Invitational and this website.

Qualifying/Match Play - 

  • Lane assignments will be pre-assigned for all pre-registered bowlers.  Walk in's will be assigned lanes based on first come first serve basis.  Maximum number of bowlers per lane - 3 bowlers.

  • Oil pattern will be a modified house shot and will be communicated 1 week prior to event.

  • 10 minutes warm up will be given prior to each qualifying shift. Please remember lane courtesy.

  • 4 game qualifier - changing pairs after 2 games.  Bowlers will move to the left or right depending on their starting lane assignment skipping a complete pair of lanes.

  • Mini Pod Eliminators may be played based on the number of entries received in each division.  Pod Eliminators will be used to confirm bowlers advancing to Step Ladder finals.

  • Step Ladder finals will begin at 5:00pm and will be 1 game, head to head with winner advancing.  

  • Multiple winners will receive scholarship awards in both the Scratch and Handicap divisions based on number of entries.

  • Over $5000 in scholarship awards available based on full tournament enrollment.  

    • Payout will be determined by the number of entries in each division.  Payout amounts will be available the day of the event.  All tournament winnings will be applied to bowlers SMART account.

New - Second Chance option.        NO LONGER AVAILABLE - 1PM SHIFT IS FULL

Want to better your qualifying score?  If you want a second chance to qualify you may purchase a second entry for the 2nd shift (1PM).  Cost - $50.  Option only available to bowlers who pre-register to bowl during 1st shift.  The best series from either qualifying session will be used for your qualifying score.  Both entries must be in the same division.  Only top score will be considered for qualifying ranking.

SECOND CHANCE OPTION IS ONLY AVAILABLE UNTIL THE SECOND SHIFT IS FILLED.  To pre-register for the second chance option, complete a new online entry form and payment online for the second shift option.
