The 11th Annual Howie Kolhoff Invitational Team Event will be held on February 24, 2024 at Eastway Bowl in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

 

Maximum of 32 team entries accepted for the 2024 event.  Entry Fee ~ $225.00.  

Registration deadline - February 14, 2024

Team event is open to all USBC Sanctioned High School (and Middle School where applicable) bowlers.  

All entries must be submitted and paid via online methods.  Please click the ENTRY button above to register and pay.

Registration -

  • Entry Fee is $225 per team ($100 lineage, $125 expenses and scholarships)​.  A minimal processing fee has been included in the amount due.  Money and completed registration form must be submitted no later than February 14, 2024.  Refund requests will be evaluated on an individual basis.  Deadline for refund requests is Thursday, February 22, 5pm CT.

  • Maximum of 32 teams accepted.  Entries received after maximum number of teams received will be contacted and wait listed.  Head coach will be contacted in the case there is a cancelation in their respective division.  Full refund will be provided for all wait listed teams that were not accepted into the tournament.

  • One shift of Team qualifying available ~ Saturday, February 24 ~ 8am.     

  • Players must be USBC sanctioned youth bowlers, 10 years old by to August 1, 2023.  

  • NEW for 2024 - Teams will consist of 4 bowlers with 1 optional substitute bowler.  Schools may enter multiple teams; however each bowler may only participate on one team.

  • Building your Team

    • Teams may be formed from one of the following options -

      • Same organized league team from the most current 2023-2024 competitive season (ie. High School Team, Club/Travel Team, Saturday Youth League Team, etc.)

        • An organized league team must be within a USBC sanctioned league and you must be able to supply current league standings/roster prior to registration being accepted.

      • May combine bowlers from a maximum of two schools

      • May combine bowlers from a maximum of two teams

    • Every effort should be made to construct your teams from a single team or school before opting for the additional options to form your team.

    • PLEASE NOTE: Teams unable to provide the required validation materials will not be accepted for this event.

    • Combined teams will bowl in their respective divisions based on gender.  Coed teams will bowl in the Open division.  Girls teams may complete in the Open division.

    • Approval of all combined teams is at the discretion of the Tournament Director.  Any questions on qualifications can be emailed to bowlhowie@yahoo.com.

  • All bowlers must provide proof of school attendance.  Proof of attendance must be provided prior to event by emailing evidence to bowlhowie@yahoo.com.  We will accept the following evidence - School ID, Report Card or Class Schedule.

  • Up to two coaches allowed per team.  All coaches must be a USBC RVP members or a registered volunteer with another youth organization.  Coaches must be certified in the SafeSport program.  Confirmation of qualifications will be completed by the Tournament Director prior to event.  Coaches not meeting qualifications may coach team from spectator seating. USBC RVP lanyards must be worn by all coaches during tournament play.

  • A minimum of 8 Girls teams is required to host Girls Division.  If the minimum number of entries is not received, Girls teams will be given the option to bowl in the Open division or receive a refund of their entry fee. 

  • All bowlers will be scratch bowlers.  No handicap will be awarded for this event.

  • Teams must wear ‘like’ uniforms signifying their team.  Coed/Combined teams may wear their jersey from their respective teams.  All teams are encouraged to wear like dress pants and/or skirts.  Denim, leggings, sweatpants, hats and attire with offensive language/images are not allowed.  Coaches must be identifiable with their team.  Uniform acceptance is at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

  • All bowlers must be eligible to compete per their schools participation policies.  All bowlers must be able to show proof of school attendance (ie, school id, report card) if requested from Tournament Staff.

Code of Conduct - 

  • Cell phones/Headphones/AirPods: the use of electronics is prohibited during gameplay.

  • Unsportsmanlike Behavior: this behavior will not be tolerated on the lanes or inside the tournament venue.  Individuals are subject to ejection for engaging in improper tactics or conducting, including, but not limited to physical and verbal abuse toward other persons.  ANY taunting by bowlers, coaches or spectators will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion from the event.

  • Profanity:  No profanity is allowed on or off the lanes.

  • No outside food or beverage will be allowed.  Food specials will be available through the Eastway Lounge.  Meal tickets can be purchased at the Front Desk during each qualifying shift.  Refillable beverage containers with lids are allowed and encouraged for all bowlers. 

  • Alcohol: No alcohol is allowed during the competition.

  • ONLY BOWLERS AND TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE BOWLING AREA.

 

Tournament play -

  • Check in for the Team event starts 45 minutes prior to shift start time.  Coaches meeting will be held prior to shift start time.  Doors open at 7am.  Please do not enter building prior to 7am.

  • Modified challenge pattern will be released during the week leading up to the event.  Fresh oil will be applied prior to qualifying shift and prior to beginning of Baker match play.

  • 5 bowlers and 2 coaches allowed in the bowler’s area.  Spectators and bowlers not actively bowling in current shift may not enter the bowling area.

  • Bowlers paddock area – An area will be marked for bowling bags/equipment.  All bowlers should store their equipment in this area while they are bowling and vacate once finished.

  • All equipment must be taken home after the completion of that days event.

  • No more than 2 balls per bowler in the bowling area.

  • Additional details pertaining to the event activities will be communicated during coaches meeting(s).

QUALIFYING –

  • 4 bowler teams will complete 3 regular games on same pair.   

  • Substitutions will be allowed at the start of each new game.  The bowler(s) taken out cannot re-enter that game.  The original player(s) may re-enter the next game.  Please contact Lane Monitor to make substitutions.

  • Lane monitors will be available to assist with any scoring issues.  Bowlers may NOT change scores for themselves or other bowlers.  Scores changed by a bowler may result in a zero score for that frame.

  • Lineup changes may only be completed when a substitute bowler enters the game.  Please contact Lane Monitor to make changes.

  • 10 minutes warm up will be given prior to qualifying shift. Please remember lane courtesy.

  • Number of teams advancing to Baker Match Play will be based on the number of team entries received in each division.

  • List of qualifying teams will be announced after qualifying is complete.  Resulted will also be posted on Facebook @Howie Kolhoff Invitational and on display at the Front Desk at Eastway Bowl. 

  • Teams will be seeded into double-elimination bracket play based on qualifying results.

  • All bowlers are eligible for All-Tournament Team honors.  The All-tournament Team will be presented prior to match play.  All-tournament Team scholarship money will be applied to bowlers’ SMART account. 

 

BAKER MATCH PLAY -

  • 4 bowler teams will compete in double elimination match play ~ best 2 out of 3 Bakers games.  If the same team wins the first 2 games, a third game will not be played. Winning coach must report match results.

  • Highest seeded team will have choice of starting lane.  Teams will change lanes at the end of each completed game until the completion of the match.    

  • 10 minutes of warm up will be allowed prior to teams’ first match.  An adjusted warm up timeframe will be provided at the start of each match thereafter.  A warm up pair will be identified for teams bowling in next round of bracket play.

  • Baker play will be a 4 bowler rotation.  Substitutions are allowed during Baker match play.  If a substitution is made during the game, the bowler taken out cannot re-enter that game.  Bowlers taken out can re-enter the match during the next game.

  • Please remember lane courtesy and do not bowl more than 2 frames ahead of your opponent.

  • Tie breaker will be a 9th and 10th frame roll off (with the bowlers originally bowling in those frames).  All tie breakers will be completed prior to the next game starting.  If still a tie, will do best frame roll off, rotating through the remaining team members until there is a winner. 

  • Championship match will be best 2 put of 3 Baker games.  If the team coming from the loser’s bracket wins the match, a sudden death game will be played to determine the winner. 

  • All tournament winnings will be dispersed to bowlers’ SMART account.  Prize amount based on number of team entries. 

$3000 guaranteed scholarship money available based on 32 team enrollments.  Tournament Staff reserves the right to adjust max payout amount if fewer than 32 teams participate in event.  Scholarship payout 1:8 in each division based on team enrollment.
